The haveli is from 17th century CE. Sirhind is witnessing vast changes in economic and social terms that are impacting heritage. In the developing city with a lack of awareness towards heritage assets, many historic structures are in a derelict condition, while some of them have already collapsed or are in ruins. Neglect and lack of maintenance add to the current state.

Radhadamodar Rashmancha Manglai Shyamballavpur, Panskura Block, Purba Medinipur District, West Bengal

The building was constructed in the year 1859 CE, as a part of the Vaisnavite religious ritual. Although built by a private initiative, it was meant for the entire community during festivals. It faces a serious threat of vandalism. The roof of the structure is still accessible through a hidden staircase in the plinth and walls.

Arya Samaj Girl’s School, Gali Raja Kedar Nath, Chawri Bazaar, Delhi

The structure was originally constructed as a Haveli in the year 1909. Being a listed heritage structure, it is protected from any changes unless approved by the Delhi Municipal Corporation or the Heritage Conservation Committee. However, the building shows signs of structural distress, water seepage as well as the collapse of parapet walls at places. This bears major risk to life and property in a functional school. The building has the potential to be restored and revived for reuse.

Clock Tower Ghanta Ghar, Kota, Rajasthan

The Clock tower was built in the year 1893 by Maharaja Umed Singh II in the memory of the British political agent Charles Allen Baylay. The clocks for the tower were brought from England and the construction was in the Rajasthani style of architecture topped by a chhatri dome. Due to the lack of maintenance, the tower shows signs of deterioration.

The water structure is accessed through Khairmai temple complex. The ghats on Hanuman Tal have temples and shrines. The 16th century CE structure is in an advanced state of decay. It is still in use for religious purposes. Due to urbanization, the catchment area has been reduced.

Mullah Shah Badakshi’s Mosque & Hammam Ganderbal, Kashmir

The mosque was constructed in the 17th century by Emperor Shahjahan’s eldest son, Dara Shikoh Qadri and Princess Jahanara Begum in honour of their spiritual mentor Mullah Shah. The mosque has a series of arched terraces perched on the slopes of the hill. The once glorious structure along with its multi-storied hammam is in distress with roots of trees cutting through the stone walls. The roof has collapsed portions and the wall surfaces have eroded.

The three-storied step-well belonging to the Sultanate period is located inside the Bhavnath Temple complex, in Bhadaj Village on the outskirts of Ahmedabad. The step-well is almost 42 metres long and 6 metres wide. It is partially collapsed and facing a severe threat of disappearance.

Vernacular Houses of Saree Weavers Choutuppal, Nalgonda District, Telangana

Built over 60 years ago, the houses of the traditional saree weavers are exemplary of dual-purpose vernacular architecture located in community clusters. They are famous for the handloom Ikat sarees. These clusters are critical in keeping the ancient craft of handloom weaving alive, yet they face a major threat of deterioration.

Iconic saree weaving clusters in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Assam are on UNESCO’s Tentative List of World Heritage Sites. However, with the pressures of urbanisation, there is a risk of disappearance. INTACH had conducted a study to identify clusters of vernacular houses of saree weavers in Telangana.

Maina Bibi Tomb Rajmahal, Sahibganj District, Jharkhand

Built in 15th to 16th century CE. Jama mosque was once the seat of Mughals and houses Akbari Mosque and the Tomb of Maina-Bibi. It is in a state of decay. INTACH’s conservation initiatives in Jharkhand helped in the analysis of threats to built heritage in the area.

Located opposite Raghunath Rajmahal, Ambikapur. The premises were built in 1935-36 CE to store grains that were collected in the form of lagaan or taxes levied by Raja Surguja. It lies in an advanced state of decay.
