Andul Rajbari Andul, Howrah district, West Bengal

The Rajbari was built in 1834 by Raja Rajnarayan Roybahadur. This once glorious mansion with its iconic colonnades, courtyards and distinct architectural elements stands in a state of despair. Due to negligence over the years and lack of maintenance, it is slowly crumbling. The monumental structure whose gates were once believed to be touched by the river Saraswati today appears to be partially abandoned and vandalized.

Badarpur Sarai Delhi-Badarpur border

The 18th c. Sarai, around which the urban village of Badarpur grew, was a rest-stop on the road between Delhi and Agra. Three gateways survive along the central road through the Sarai. There are remnants of the enclosing wall and a mosque. The mosque has been much altered. The sarai faces pressure of urbanisation.

Built in 1850 CE, this is the place where the throne of the King of Surguja was placed. Later a Primary School building was constructed nearby. There was also a big baoli, the road from which would end in the royal palace. It is in an advanced state of decay and at risk of damage from natural calamities and newer construction around it. The baoli is completely closed now and a new building has been constructed for the primary school.

Bala Kund ki Baoli Bundi, Rajasthan

Located in the historic city of Bundi, the Bala Kund ki Baoli was built during the reign of Rao Ummed Singh Ji over 200 years ago. The Baoli showcases simple architectural features with its rectangular plan, straight flight of stairs and arched openings on the square well. Today it faces a major threat of disappearance, due to dilapidation and dense vegetation growth, thus resulting in inaccessibility.

Maharashtra cities and towns are rich in historic residential buildings, such as this 18th-century wada. The owners of wadas and heritage properties in core cities and other small towns in the vicinity face pressure to demolish and build new buildings taking advantage of FSI. Wadas are being replaced by the new urban form borrowed from the metropolis. Wadas in core towns are either in ruins/ abandoned condition or given on rent. Inharmonious new construction is a key reason for losing the old character of towns.

Karauli has various castles and forts that served as homes for the erstwhile rulers. Among these, Inayati Castle from 1788 CE is in an advanced state of decay. Its central mahal collapsed during a storm in 2014.

Situated in the lush and scenic hills of Damua Dhara. The temple houses an ancient idol of Lord Vrushabhdev and legend holds that it was the place where he used to reside. Idol of Ram-Laxman-Janki is placed in the temple. The temple is presently abandoned.

Summer Palace of Travancore kingdom Idukki, Kerala

The summer capital of the last ruling Maharaja of the erstwhile Travancore kingdom at Idukki, is about 200 years old. It is said to have been constructed with materials that were carried on the rope-way to the site. Over the years, the ownership of the building changed hands. The palace and surrounding 25 acres were purchased by Swami Athuradas after Independence. Now it is owned by an IT company based in Bengaluru. The palace has been the location for many film shoots but is now in a decrepit state.

The 900-1000 years old temple is severely threatened and partially collapsed. It is located at the junction of Tapi and Galti Rivers, near Dakor, Anand District, Gujarat.

The restoration of the Galteshwar Temple has been completed in September 2021, by the efforts of the Archaeological Survey of India
