Conservation Procedures Sessions

The Architectural Heritage Division of INTACH organised Conservation Procedures Practical Sessions in November 2018, focussing on hand-on aspects of architectural conservation. This set of 14 films encapsulates the practical exercises as well as touches upon the theoretical knowledge and precautions to be followed while undertaking the specific procedures in conservation practise. Four basic themes of conservation were covered in the workshop in collaboration with Art & Material Heritage Division, INTACH and guided by expert facilitators. These were: Structural Consolidation, Reconstruction, Cleaning, and Surface Consolidation & Protection.

A compilation of the workshop in the form of a book ‘Conservation Procedures: Based on Hands-on Sessions’ is available at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08B33TTPW?ref_=pe_3052080_397514860
It is also available at INTACH office, 71 Lodhi Estate, New Delhi, as well as on order from INTACH by emailing at pdahintach@gmail.com

It must be noted that this serves as an introduction to the materials and techniques discussed. Traditional techniques and materials are best suited in conservation practice. It is important to assess with qualified conservation professionals, the viability and appropriateness of any procedure, considering the need of the situation before using any new technique or product on site. The materials used in the procedures are examples of the variety available. Therefore, it is essential that the steps documented here must only be followed in consultation with and approval of the conservation architect and material conservator on the site/ project, and the requirement determined on a case-by-case basis.
